Forecast Roundup for January 12th Winter Storm

A powerful winter storm is bearing down on Western Pennsylvania, with plummeting temperatures accompanying a lot of precipitation that will transition from rain to ice to snow. The exact time that the changeover occurs will have a significant impact on the overall accumulation, and disagreement on that timing has led to a huge disparity in forecast snow totals. When all 8 of the forecasts are averaged, Pittsburgh comes in at an expected 5 inches of snow. The precipitation will leave the area early Saturday, but until evening travel will be treacherous as the recent heavy rainfall flash-freezes underneath a moderate amount of snow.

Check back to the site tomorrow evening for our analysis, as we calculate which outlet had the most accurate forecast, which will impact our Forecaster Ratings.
